When reading Eleanor and Park, I had many thoughts. I'm going to give my one main critique to start. Why would Park fall for Eleanor so quickly? They were silent and never talked for so long. Then after he catches her reading his comics, he starts slowing down to let her read all of it. Then he lets her borrow comics and then his Walkman. They become boyfriend and girlfriend when they start holding hands. It seems like it goes really quick considering they never really talked to each other except for the last couple weeks. I'm curious about the bus number being 666. It would be funny that the bus number reflects those inside. However, I'm more curious as to whether that's just what she refers to it as since those inside are so mean to her. My view on the book so far is that it is an okay book. It's not really my style of book. However, its well written. It provides a good glimpse at the reality of the world. It focuses heavily on poverty in America. It is also well written and does a great job at switching between Park and Eleanor to give you an idea of what they are both thinking.
I do wish there was another sequence in the story that would really give the reader a good reason to believe that Park is involve with Eleanor and for what reason.
Yeah I caught the 666 thing too- was wondering if it was ACTUALLY number 666 or if that was just there to stress Eleanors perception of the bus being evil and awful. If it was a joke Eleanor was making to herself or if it was sort of one Rainbow Rowell was making to her audience.

ReplyDeleteI agree that they started to move quickly in their relationship regarding the fact they barely spoke to each other.
